Electronic Kiosks for Loyalty Programs in Retail

Overview

Loyalty programs have become popular among retailers to encourage loyal buying behavior from their customers. In general, customers are issued membership cards, and sometimes credit cards, which allow them to accumulate bonus points for making purchases. The bonus points can then be redeemed for cash or other rewards. Many retailers in Taiwan have installed electronic kiosks in their stores to make it easier for customers to check their bonus points and redeem rewards.

Electronic kiosks are very similar to ATMs, consisting of an embedded PC connected to various peripheral devices such as a touch screen monitor, card reader, keypad, and receipt printer. USB ports are a standard feature on computers today and offer a convenient way to connect peripheral devices. However, due to their compact size, embedded computers used inside electronic kiosks may have an insufficient number of port connections to accommodate all the peripheral devices.

Solution

Using an external USB hub expands the number USB connections the embedded computer can handle so all the kiosk's peripheral devices can connect to the embedded computer.

As the first USB hubs in the market to receive USB-IF certification, Moxa UPort 400 series ensures the most reliable and highest quality connections and data transfers for all the components inside an electronic kiosk. In addition, MOXA UPort 400 series are DIN-Rail and wall mountable so it can be fixed to the panel inside a kiosk to save additional space.
