Integrating Peripheral Devices in an ATM

Overview

A classic type of self-service kiosk is the ATM (Automated Teller Machine). Deployed in multiple locations, ATM offer consumers increased convenience in making deposits and withdrawals from their bank accounts.

ATMs have an embedded PC in the center of the machine to connect multiple serial peripherals such as card readers, keypads, touch screens, receipt printers, cash dispensers, etc. The PC connects to these serial devices through a multiport serial board. Due to the limited space available inside the ATM, some embedded PCs require Low Profile boards.

Solution

TNS offers a variety of multiport serial boards and embedded PC suitable for the ATM industry. MOXA CP-104UL is a 4-port RS-232 Universal PCI board that adheres to low profile requirements.

Some ATMs offer value-added services such as cash deposits and bill payments. Thus, additional peripheral devices are used. At TNS, multiport serial boards capable of connecting more than 4 serial devices are available.

ATMs also use a wide range of connection interfaces such as ISA and PCI Express. To meet the needs of such a diverse clientele, TNS offers MOXA C104H (ISA) and MOXA CP-104EL (PCI Express) multiport serial boards.

PCs that come with embedded modules can also utilise PC/104 module (MOXA CA-114) or PC/104-Plus module (MOXA CB-114) to increase the number of COM ports.
