A new residential community was developed in Taipei, Taiwan by a well-known construction company. In this community, intelligent buildings were connected with fibre Ethernet. Residents would have access to high-tech services, such as high-speed Internet connections, advanced security systems, intelligent elevator control, and on-demand TV. In addition, each building would be monitored in real-time from a central control room, and individual fire alarms could be triggered as needed.

System Requirements

• An efficient and reliable security monitoring system that integrates data, video, and voice over one network for centralized monitoring management.
• Ethernet network with high-bandwidth and long-haul transmission capability for video streaming over office buildings.
• Integration of security facilities at locations that are hard to wire for power sources.


Moxa offers a variety of I/O solutions for most industrial requirements. The EDS-405A switch was used for the network infrastructure, and the ioMirror E3210 peer-to-peer Ethernet I/O servers were used to transmit I/O signals. Fire alarm sensors were connected to one ioMirror unit, which exchanged signals over Ethernet with another ioMirror unit that was connected to the control centre. By utilizing the existing fibre network, I/O signals could be transferred without additional wiring effort. An advantage with the ioMirror E3210 is that channel-to-channel mapping is also supported, so one unit could receive I/O signals from different channels over Ethernet.
